Romania has a long and reputable tradition in beer producing. Nowadays, more than 99% of beer consumption is covered by internal production. In 2010, the beer market in Romania registered more than 17 milions hl sold, while the average consumption per capita was 80 liters.

Part of StarBev Group, the company was founded in 1994, and its most proeminent brand, Bergenbier, was launched one year later.

Today, Bergenbier S.A. is among the top 3 beer producers in Romania, has 600 employees, a modern production plant in Ploiesti and a national distribution network.

The company’s portfolio includes brands that cover all market segments. Besides its own local brands, produced at the Bergenbier factory: Bergenbier and Noroc, the company produces Staropramen, Beck’s, Stella Artois and Lowenbrau and distributes 2 Belgian specialty beers: Leffe and Hoegaarden.

Bergenbier factory in Ploiesti, one of the most important cities in Romania, is one of the less polluting factories in the country, while also being the biggest production facility of the Starbev Group.

Besides innovation and constant concern for quality, Bergenbier company develops a social responsibility strategy that focuses on 4 main areas. The first area is represented by the responsible drinking programs, Bergenbier SA being the first Romanian brewer that launched a campaign which fights against selling alcohol to minors “Respect 18”.

Moreover, the company pays great attention to environmental protection, through selective waste collection programs and investing in modern production technologies which reduce waste and energy. The biogas station opened in 2011 at Ploiesti factory allows the re-use of the biogas resulted in the treatment process of waste water, thus reducing the gas consumption and also the carbon dioxide emissions.
